Metallica - Ride The Lightning (Metal, 1984)
"From start to finish it's a complete package. It's young, raw, obnoxious, loud, fast, energetic, and inspirational, and everything in between. When it came out, it was the achievement of our lives..."
The classic "For Whom The Bell Tolls" is an anti-war song based on the homonymous novel by Ernest Hemingway.
With this album Metallica confirm their total control on Thrash Metal and their consolidation like an international band. In this album the band members were fully adapted to each other and make a more mature and considerably better musical album. The lyrics of this album deal with adult issues and social problems: suicide, capital punishment, war etc. Anyone that is aware of the history of Metallica will know that their music has changed over the years in some cases with drastic and horrifying consequences. This album is however in my opinion their greatest ever release and one they will never again equal. After the raw and speed metal sound release that was "Kill 'em All" Metallica released a much more mature release where everything imaginable was better. "Ride the Lightning" was more refined and as a result more interesting. If not the best Metallica record- one you should definitely own.
