Mountain - Extended Versions (Hard/Blues Rock, 2000)

Felix Pappalardi with Leslie West

Like today, April 17, 1983, Felix Pappalardi died. The founder of Mountain and bandmate with Leslie West, the legendary Cream producer was shot and killed by his wife in his house. I thought it would be nice to remember him a bit. A scolar of classical music at the University of Michigan, Felix made a name of himself as an arranger when he was part of the Greenwich village folk-music scene. By the late 60's he was a highly respected bass player and arranger, and established his international reputation from his association with Cream. After Cream's break up he formed Mountain along with former Vagrant guitarist Leslie West. He developed partial deafness - something that unfortunately many drummers end up with - and was forced to retire. However he remained active and cretited in various albums - sometimes as a vocalist, an arranger, a backup ensemble conductor and so on - until his death. Enjoy this elegant compilation of some of Mountain's most raw hard tunes. West's guitar style is melodic and bluesy. And Pappalardi's bass lines are as heavy and elegant as ever
